Fembot | Robyn
Robyn’s journey from her origins in the 90s as a Swedish Britney/Christina analogue (you’ve probably forgotten her hits “Show Me Love” and “Do You Know (What It Takes)”) to her current incarnation as an electro-pop hitmaker has been a long one, but it’s arguably been worth it.
Over the past 3 years, she’s been racking up an impressive string of well-crafted and irresistible songs, including “With Every Heartbeat” and “Konichiwa Bitches.” Her collaborations with artists like Royksopp (on the incredible “The Girl and the Robot”), Diplo, and Snoop Dogg (her choruses on the Fyre Department remix of “Sexual Eruption” definitely improved upon the original) have yielded sonic gold.
“Fembot,” a track on her new album Body Talk, Pt. 1, showcases her ability to write ridiculous, Missy Elliott-like lyrics while shrewdly making insanely catchy tunes. How can you not love a song that contains the lyric, “I got a lot of automatic booty applications”? Below, she experiments with reggae on “Dancehall Queen,” another song from Body Talk, Pt. 1.
